Is over confidence among employers/managers facilitating claims by employees? The number of cases being lost by employers at the Employment Appeals Tribunal for not following the proper procedures is baffling me.Are they so sure of themselves that they plough on regardless thinking divine intervention will guide them? A lot of time and money could be saved, and bad publicity avoided if they just asked for an impartial second opinion. The medical profession do it all the time, why not managers and corporate HR professionals ? Thats what outside Workplace Relations Specialists are there for, to spread the risk and minimise the chances of a bad decision. And as the outside specialist is obliged to have Professional Indemnity Cover in the event of bad advice being given, doesnt it make sense to involve them in contentious issues? Win or Lose on the issue, its Win/Win all the way for the employer. Is it pride that stops these people from seeking independent advice?
Remember the old saying ” Pride cometh before a fall”. Amen.
