Corporate loyalty is is right up there with teamwork , positive culture and buyin of strategic goals as an aspiration that every organisation tries to foster among it workplace. However, in some organisations which are very tightly knit, loyalty to the organisation sometimes takes on a life of its own and overrides many other considerations to the detriment of individual employee rights.
This has been very evident recently in the case of certain Whistleblower controversies that made the news. Even if company management acquiesces and turns a blind eye, it is the duty of the HR dept to ensure that each employees rights are safeguarded, even more so now as the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 is now law. Circling the wagons for the sake of i,t is never a good idea.
